NCPL plans 'No Girls Allowed'

The Natrona County Public Library once again will be hosting a "No Girls Allowed" program. tailored to the learning and reading needs of boys. The "No Girls Allowed" book club allows boys to read about topcis that interest them, and stay active and engaged while discussing them.

The first book club selection is "The Captain's Dog," by Roland Smith, introducing the Lewis and Clark expedition from a dog's-eye-view. Boys in grades 3-6 will enjoy the adventure, and their fathers, grandpas and other male role models are encouraged to participate. Pick up a copy of the book in the Children's Department at the library and join the discussion, complete with pizza and pop on March 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Library offers medical assistance class

Would you like to be able to find reliable medical information from the comfort of your own home?

The Natrona County Public Library will be holding a special computer class on Wednesday at 1 p.m. to teach people about the many resources available to you at your library.

Good medical information can be hard to find, and the library gives you access to reliable sources that can be accessed both in the library and at home with an Internet connection. Call 577-READ, ext. 2 to sign up for this special class.

Natrona County High School prepares for PAWS

Natrona County High School will conduct PAWS testing beginning March 17 and continuing through April 11.

Most sophomores and juniors will be taking tests in reading, writing and math. All juniors will be taking the PAWS science test and the ACT. NCHS will operate on a block schedule each day of the week except Fridays.

The PAWS test measures students' achievements of different skills. The ACT is being administered during the high school day for the first time, courtesy of the State of Wyoming. The ACT score is used to determine Hathaway Scholarship eligibility.

Casper BLM plans prescribed burns

The Bureau of Land Management's Casper field office will be conducting prescribed burns in Natrona, Converse and Platte counties, as early as March 15 and continue throughout the summer and fall as conditions permit.

In Natrona County, the burns include Muddy Mountain, where approximately 30 acres of slash piles and debris created from forest health management activities in the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education area south of Casper. The goal of this project is to improve the health and age class diversity of aspen woodlands and lodgepole pine communities.

Burns will also occur in the Sand Draw area, with treatement of sagebrush and grassland and mountain mahogany; the Bathtub Springs area, to treat 300-700 acres of sagebrush grasslands and aspen woodlands 70 miles west-southwest of Casper; and the Bates Creek watershed restoration, treating 150 acres of big sagebrush grasslandsand aspen woodlands approximately 35 miles south of Casper.
