Theatre board seeks members

The Gertrude Krampert Theatre Community Advisory Board is seeking applications to fill three board positions, according to a release from Casper College.

The board meets once a month. Members participate in the annual Patron's Gala fundraising event, allocate the patron funds raised each year, act as community liaisons for the theatre, and select the works to be performed each season, according to Tom Empey, theatre department chair.

The board also awards 20 theatre and dance scholarships.

Anyone interested in becoming a board member should submit a letter of interest and background to Tammy Frankland, board nominee committee chair, c/o Casper College, 125 College Dr., Casper, 82601. The deadline to apply is June 2.

Toastmasters hosts past president

The 2004 Toastmasters International president will speak at 6 p.m. tonight at the Agricultural Resource Center.

Ted Corcoran, president of the communication and leadership organization from 2003-04, is owner of Ted Corcoran and Associated, a management consulting firm based in Dublin, Ireland.

Corcoran also served as Toastmasters' district governor for the United Kingdom and Ireland and as international director. He has spent seven years on the group's international board.

Students plan special presentation

Students at Park Elementary School will channel their inner historical figures during a special presentation today.

Kindergarten through third-grade students in Beth Bergslien's gifted and talented class have been receiving weekly visits from Painted Past members, courtesy of a partnership established through the district's F.R.E.D. program.

Students have studied historical figures and learned how to "become" their characters, who include Benjamin Franklin, JRR Tolkien, Queen Elizabeth, Amelia Earhart, Cleopatra, Beethoven, Walt Disney, Hellen Keller, and Wilbur Wright. They will dress in costume and tell their life stories, often even adopting accents and mannerisms.

A small group of students will give a special encore performance at 9:45 a.m. today at Park Elementary School.
