Dick Cheney will return to his hometown of Casper on Sunday to raise money for the Wyoming Republican Party.

The vice president plans to attend a fundraising reception for Republican candidates and Republican get-out-the-vote efforts. Tickets cost $1,200, and a photo op with Cheney costs an extra $300.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m. in the finished upstairs of a horse barn owned by Diemer True, Wyoming's Republican national committeeman. Well over 100 people attended a similar fundraiser in the barn with Cheney four years ago, True said.

True said tickets this year are selling fast.

"This may be the last visit the vice president makes to Casper in an official capacity before his term ends, so there's been a lot of interest," he said.

One of those planning to attend is Cynthia Lummis, a former state treasurer who's running for the Republican nomination for Wyoming's U.S. House seat.

"There are candidates on the Republican ticket for county commissioner, and sheriff and legislators as well as our entire congressional delegation," Lummis said. "To the extent that the vice president is able to help the Wyoming Republican Party raise funds to support all of its candidates up and down the ticket, I could not be more pleased."

Two other Republican candidates for the U.S. House said they've committed to be at a Laramie County Republican Party pie social in Pine Bluffs on Sunday. Buffalo-area rancher Mark Gordon said he's checking his schedule to see if he can attend both events.

Gordon said he appreciates Cheney's efforts to counter donations to the lone Democrat in the U.S. House race, Wilson businessman Gary Trauner.

"It's great because this is going to be a hard-fought campaign. Obviously Gary is working hard to raise money and is raising a lot of money," Gordon said.

Retired Navy officer Bill Winney said he won't be able to make it to Casper, but he applauds Cheney's appearance.

"He's a favorite son of the state, and he does have a draw. There's a lot of people who like talking to him," Winney said.

A Cheney spokeswoman said the vice president will be in Beaver Creek, Colo., on Saturday for an annual conference of the American Enterprise Institute.

War-profiteering by KBR and Halliburton in the millions and billions of dollars. Plans currently afoot to attack Iran. The politicalization of science and catering to special business interests.
Yes indeed. We owe so much to the vice president. "

Mark wrote on Jun 20, 2008 3:22 PM:

" I cannot think of a single instance when Richard Cheney was not thinking of himself first!. There is really nothing that I am aware of that could make me proud of the Vice President. I believe history will indeed be very accurate and objective about this individual and will portray him as a very poor example of humanity. This is a person who if it were not for the fact that he is an American citizen and the Vice President of the United States besides, would be facing trial at the Hague in the Netherlands for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Both Cheney and Bush as well as Rumsfeld should be charged by the World Court and tried for the unspeakable things they authorized U.S. forces and U.S. military intelligence to do to other human beings, most of whom were completely innocent people who did nothing against the United States or it's people. What the President and the Vice President authorized was at least as wrong as anything that happened during Adolph Hitler's reign in Europe almost 70 years ago. If the same standards were applied today that were applied then, all three of these people would be tried, probably convicted and imprisoned, and possibly executed for the crimes they have committed during this past 7 or more years.

Americans that defend these individuals are at least as sick, demented and immoral as were the NAZI party members who supported Hitler during W W I I. This is not an exaggeration, these 3 people authorized the most extreme measures of inhumanity the world has seen in our time, and these liars and deceivers did all this in the name of fighting terrorism and Al Queda. They are not true Americans. They are some sick, selfish breed of human hatred that is not in the least bit representative of the American people, our culture or our values. There is not one single thing that these 3 people did that was not illegal, not only in the United States but internationally too. The only reason they will get away with this terrible inhuman travesty is because they are OUR elected and appointed leaders of OUR government, and we are not about to be honest to the rest of the world about this. No, we are going to join the lies, the deceit, the inhumanity, and defend it with our dying breath in order to prove our so-called loyalty to America. If any foreign president, vice president or defense secretary authorized the inhumane acts these 3 did anywhere else in the world, we would be demanding that they be brought to justice and held accountable for what they did in the World Court. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld should be held completely responsible for their part in all of this, and there should be no hiding behind "lower placed individuals" (scapegoats) who acted on their own without official authorization. That did not happen. The military personnel and CIA personnel, along with the foreign contract agents did everything they did because of the authorization given them from Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, even if it was purposely designed to be indirect authorization. No one in their right mind could possibly be proud of these war criminals.

911 had nothing to do with what these 3 men authorized and carried out against innocent people around the world and the deceptive and unconstitutional things they did and are still doing to the people of the United States. The war on terrorism is a huge propaganda lie, formulated to accommodate certain political and economic purposes of these 3 individuals and their close political and business partners here and abroad. The attack on the world trade center in September of 2001 was just a very convenient means by which these criminals could launch their plans for bankrupting America, enriching themselves in the process, and keeping a base of totally ignorant American supporters defending their insane, greedy and hateful behavior. Anyone who supports the official acts of inhumanity this President and Vice President have done is not a true American. A loyal party wonk perhaps, but not a true American. A loyal idiot to slavery and stupidity perhaps, but not a true American. Fear of terrorism is just the latest hot political bandwagon that these people cultivated in order to gain power and to keep power, and it is absolute power. Anyone who has been stupid enough to buy into and support this tragic political fraud should be committed, not allowed to vote, not allowed to drive a vehicle or operate any kind of machinery, and prohibited from reproducing themselves. Welcome back to Wyoming Mr. Cheney, the place where people will be loyal and kind to your face, but they know the truth. At least most of us do. "

Bush eventually fired Rumsfeld and did increase troop levels, but it was too late. Iran had already infiltrated the Iraqi parliament by then. Now that is irreversible. We're basically backing the same Iraqi leaders that Iran is (Maliki, Sistani and Sadr). Bush could not fire Cheney because it would basically look like total disorder in the United States. How long does America have left wrote on Jun 24, 2008 4:29 PM:

" The real problem in America today:

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
permanent form of government." A democracy will continue to exist up
until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous
gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a
dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith

2. From spiritual faith to great courage

3. From courage to liberty

4.From liberty to abundance

5. From abundance to complacency

6. From complacency to apathy

7. From apathy to dependence

8. From dependence back into bondage

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul,
Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Gore 19, Bush 29

Square miles of land won by: Gore 580,000, Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Gore 127 million, Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Gore: 13.2, Bush:
2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of
governmentwelfare." Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the complacency and apathy phase of professor Tyler's definition
of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already
having reached the "governmental dependency" phase. If Congress grants
amnesty and citizenship to twelve million criminal invaders called illegal aliens (aka undocumented migrants or immigrants euphemistically) and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years. Apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

So, how long does America have left? It is truly up to all of us to decide that by our action, honorable or otherwise or our failure to act. "

As for Reagan, he chumped it too: trading long-range missiles to Iran was hardly a solution. Getting those hostages back scored some short-term political points for him, but we had to find out the rest of the story over the next decade. Giving missiles to Iran, in return for hostages that should have never been over there in the first place, is another lose-lose. Bottom line: That U.S embassy should have been blown up by Carter with the rest of Iran.... and no one else in the Middle East would have messed with us again. Ever. "

McCain was offered release six times from North Vietnam, and refused it. Some hero. Sounds like more of a political showboat to me. None of these new guys have the resolve or the intelligence of Vice President Cheney. God Bless. "

" Everyone needs to just calm down a little bit. There are any number of theories on why we lost the war in Iraq. However; as with any event in history, perspective needs some distance. It will take many years before we know what went wrong. Everyone likes to throw blame around early, but that does not help. It's behind us now. "

Good stuff. "

" Tehran to Tikrit, Bush and Cheney never said anything about "moving in next door" to prepare for an attack on Iran. They lied to us!

Since our attempt at overthrowing a democratically elected Mohammed Mossedeq in replace of a pro-western dictator in 1953 (because of oil), and our willingness to support Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war, we have been regarded as a threat to the Shiite clerical authority in Iran. We look like bumbling idiots! We support dictators when they are in agreement with our selfishness, yet we proclaim we want to spread democracy throughout the world.

Because or our selfish actions, and lack of perspective on Iran, bombing them would be a major mistake and would surely create more enemies for ourselves. Is that what you want, Tehran? "

Why does any "native son" automatically deserve respect and loyalty? That isn't logical and quickly falls apart when you start examining native sons, of anywhere.
For example, Cubin isn't native, yet I suspect you've supported her through the years. And did I read somewhere that Enzi and Barrasso aren't native?
Besides, demographically, HALF of Wyoming's population came from out of state. "

I also am a conservative Republican and I will be voting for John McCain whom shares many of the Vice Presidents strong traits. I suppose that many will believe to now "know me" by those remarks, but you couldn't be further from the truth as this media is unidimensional as are most of the minds posting here on. Take a break from the blogusphere and poison pen media (of all stripes), get some fresh air and do some thinking. It'll do you good and may clear your mind. After reading what you've posted here, all of you need some quiet time away from outside influences. "

" Funny how everything wrong in the world today is due to Bush et all. Never mind that the House and Senate have been controlled by the Dems for the last two years. And that a good number of them followed Pelosi with the promise of a “comprehensive” gas plan in their pre-election promises. After two years gas is at an all time high – great plan those Dems came up with and implemented – but you never hear of that through the media. Also, if Iraq is such a failure then why are we continuing to hand over power to their forces – the media can only show and tell of the “failure”. So lets just elect more Dems so that taxes can be raised, gas prices can continue to climb, and we can pull out of Iraq, which would ensure that we lost. "

" I consider myself a Cheney supporter, and I have no real problem with his policies. But the real reason we lost the war in Iraq has nothing to do with Cheney or any other politician for that matter. The fact is, it's very difficult to keep foreign elements out of any new government. No one could have anticipated the rush to Parliamentary seats by Iran-backed elements in Baghdad that occurred in 2006. This silent Tet will be evaluated and re-evaluated many times over in the coming decades. But there is not much point. What's done is done. You can't win a war when your own allies are infiltrated. Now we know. "

" Get real Trendall. This war was lost becasue there was never an exit strategy. First we were told there were WMD's, then it was to remove Saddam Hussein, then it was to wait until they established their own government, then it was to wait until they trained their own military. The list go's on and on. The truth of the matter is Cheney/Bush has always wanted us to occupy Iraq for the oil wells. And McBush's statement that we will stay there for the next 100 years reinforces the Cheney/Bush policy. "

Have you ever heard of checks and balances? But you are so right, I did forgot that as part of their “First 100 hours” the Dems did such a good job of putting their comprehensive plan for gas into a bill that it passed but Bush vetoed it – dang him and his powers of veto!!! My point, which was clearly missed, was that there are more people involved in the running of our Country, neither side is without fault, you cannot point the finger directly at Bush and Cheney and say EVERYTHING is their fault. "

Pro-Democracy wrote on Jun 27, 2008 3:23 PM:

" Good enough, GOP. If it makes you feel better, not everything is Bush and Cheney's fault. It was that 'decider' title that threw me. Probably just grandiose notions on his part. A fair weather title at best... in hind sight. As for Checks and Balances, you might want to take another look at that. If you'll recall, Cheney has declared that the Vice President's Office is no longer part of the Executive Branch, or the Legislative Branch. Maybe he's a self-appointed judge now. Like Robert Mugabe. What a guy. "

It's been almost 40 years, and you "Vietnam Veterans" still hold a grudge against people who were smart enough to keep themselves stateside and alive. Well it worked. He became the Vice President. You, on the other hand, probably some welfare VA case by now. Plan ahead next time. "
