Hey, Answer Girl --
What is the top movie of all time, and what makes it the top movie of all time?
-- Kari
The top movie of all time changes, depending on your view of "top movie" and depending on who you ask.
According to imdb.com -- the Internet Movie Database -- the top movie of all time is "Shawshank Redemption." The Web site came up with the ranking based on online voting.
But a look at box office records will indicate that "Titanic" is the top movie of all time. Having grossed almost $700 million, it is the top money-making movie ever.
And the American Film Institute says "Citizen Kane" comes in first place.
Also commonly found on "top movies of all time" lists: "The Godfather," "Casablanca," "Raging Bull," "Schindler's List," and "Gone with the Wind."
The Answer Girl's answer would have to be "Clue," the quirky 80s comedy based (very) loosely on the Milton-Bradley board game of the same name.
Other top hits on my list -- "Splendor in the Grass," "Reservoir Dogs," and "Edward Scissorhands." Why? To me, they're quality movies that allow me to leave reality and enter the world of mindless entertainment.
Hey, Answer Girl --
Why is Wyoming called the Equality State?
-- Bob in Riverton
Wyoming is known as the Equality State because it was the first to give women equal rights. Wyoming was first in giving women the right to vote, and was the first state to allow women to serve on juries and hold public office.
Answer Addition
I've received quite a few calls lately related to unanswered questions.
First, I apologize if you e-mailed or called six months ago and I still haven't answered your question -- it's most likely a fluke. Please feel free to re-send the question.
If you e-mailed or called three months ago and I haven't answered your question, that's likely because I haven't gotten to it yet.
With few exceptions, I answer questions in the order in which they're received, and thanks to an awesome volume of interesting questions, I now have a huge backlog of questions.
So please, give me some time and I'll try to answer every question I get.
Thanks, and happy inquiry!
